The Bank of England club (Sunderland)

Len Shackleton and record-fee signings power Sunderland to fourth in Division One — the peak of the 'Bank of England' era on Wearside.

1958

Roker relegation (Sunderland)

After 68 unbroken years in the top flight, Sunderland are relegated for the first time in the club's history.
