    Inter-Cities Fairs Cup

    Bobby Moncur lifts the club's last major trophy. Feyenoord, Sporting, Zaragoza and Rangers all seen off before Újpest Dózsa are beaten 6–2 on aggregate in the final.

  2. 1969/70 · Quarter-finals

    Inter-Cities Fairs Cup

    Defence of the trophy ended by Anderlecht on away goals after a 3–3 aggregate — a taste of the tightrope of European nights.

  3. 1977/78 · 2nd round

    UEFA Cup

    A return to Europe after seven years away. Bohemians of Dublin beaten before Bastia of Corsica ended the run.

  4. 1994/95 · 2nd round

    UEFA Cup

    The Entertainers back in Europe. Antwerp thrashed 5–0 at St James' before Athletic Bilbao knocked the Toon out in a memorable tie.

  5. 1996/97 · Quarter-finals

    UEFA Cup

    Halmstads, Ferencváros, Metz and Monaco. Shearer, Ginola and Asprilla lighting up European nights — knocked out by Monaco in the last eight.

  6. 1997/98 · Group stage

    Champions League

    First ever Champions League campaign. Asprilla's hat-trick against Barcelona — one of the great St James' Park nights.

  7. 2002/03 · 2nd group stage

    Champions League

    Robson's Newcastle lose the first three group games — then beat Juventus, Dynamo Kyiv and Feyenoord to progress. Second group stage exit by a whisker.

  8. 2003/04 · Semi-finals

    UEFA Cup

    Champions League play-off loss to Partizan on penalties dropped the Toon into the UEFA Cup. Marseille ended the run at the last four.

  9. 2004/05 · Quarter-finals

    UEFA Cup

    Wins over Panionios, Olympiacos and Sporting Lisbon. Sporting eventually knocked Newcastle out in the quarter-finals.

  10. 2023/24 · Group stage

    Champions League

    Back in the Champions League after 20 years. A 4–1 demolition of PSG under the lights at St James' — the roar of a new era.
